Ann Rose and Susan Hill have something to say. Every morning for the past several years, they've chatted on the phone and ranted about the events of the day. Now, instead of ranting to each other, they will air their opinions on the internet with Hot Flash Report which will focus on abortion, reproductive rights, birth control and right-wing sexual hypocrisy. Along with a hand-picked group of 'Flasher' columnists, they will dissect the latest spin on the news and give you a piece of their mind. Ann and Susan are both long time liberal Democrats
and abortion rights activists with national credentials.

Elissa Wall is a hero to me. Like Joan of Arc and Anita Hill and the women who brave the demonstrators at abortion clinics( any one of whom could be packing a gun and crazy enough to shoot) to escort patients safely into the clinic, she braved ridicule and contempt and vicious personal attacks on her character to speak truth to power. Unlike Ms. Hill, she won, because they convicted Warren Jeffs of taking part in a conspiracy to rape a minor.
Elissa was only 14 when she was ordered to marry a cousin she heartily disliked. Unlike many of the child brides, she protested and begged not to have to marry him. Most girls don't protest because they live in a world where disobedience is simply unthinkable, and the punishment for it severe for them and anyone who aids them

The biggest difference by far between men and women, the only one that's really important - is that women can bear children and men cannot. I believe that difference, in one way or another, directly or indirectly, accounts for virtually all the oppression against women we see in the world today.
What it all comes down to is sexuality. We need to have sex to have children (unless you can afford to do it in a petri dish.) How we express ourselves sexually, or more accurately, how we're expected to express ourselves sexually, is closely tied to our cultural notions about procreation and motherhood - which in turn has everything to do with oppression against women.

When my husband was stationed in Japan from 94-2001, Pacific Stars and Stripes was our newspaper (it was that or U.S.A. Today) . Their coverage of rape and sexual harassment in the military was extremely good and very objective, as was their coverage of some rapes of Japanese women by servicemen. There were no excuses made, no attempt to downplay the facts, and no rush to justice (they covered those cases far better the MSM did the Duke rape case. They also covered Japanese handling of rape, and one case in particular shocked me.
